10 Simple and Easy Ways To Help You Lose Weight-You Can Do This!

It seems like I am always looking for a new way to stay slim and healthy and I am not quite sure why this is because really there is no magic solution. As the ten easy to follow rules for weight loss show we just need to stick to the basics and we will be alright. By following the 10 rules below obese adults who were given a pamphlet with these 10 basic rules were motivated enough to lose 4 pounds in 8 weeks. By following them all you could take off up to 900 calories a day-which is about 15 pounds over an 8 week period. Really not too tough to do and simple to follow.

10 Easy To Follow Rules For Weight Loss

1. Choose low fat foods.

2. Pack healthy snacks-think fruit, veggies, organic cheese sticks, nuts instead of chips, or candy bars.

3. Stand for 10 minutes every hour-it keeps your metabolism going

4. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily.

5. Eat small to moderate portions and skip seconds.

6. Check the fat and sugar content on lables-remember that even things like ketchup and pasta can be packed with sugar so you want to really keep your eyes open.

7. Avoid high caloric and sugary drinks-They may taste great but moderation is the key here if you must have them.

8. Eat your meals on a regular schedule-I know this can be tough sometimes on a busy schedule but try your best and keep healthy low-fat snacks with you when you may have to skip a meal. I try to eat lots of small meals each day and this keeps me from getting too hungry.

9. Wear a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps a day. Hmmmm-I have not tried this one but probably should. I always wondered how much I really walk in a day.

10. Turn off the television while you eat. I can see how this would help as it is easy to sit and watch tv while eating comfort food. It diverts your attention from how much you are actually eating.
Ref-Prevention magazine 2008-my new fave.

These really are simple and easy to follow and basic rules to help you take or keep the weight off.

  8. I am such a tv junkie, I don't think I could do number 10. But the rest make good sense, of course we all know that implementing them is always harder than it seems. :-) If it were easy the magazine would be out of business.

  10. Great list Heidi! I like #9, wear a pedometer. I started wearing one at work. At first, I was only walking 8000 steps a day. Eventually, I worked up to an average of 12000. It allows me to check my progress and tells me if I need to get up and move around more. Good advice! :)

  14. I do most of these. Have to remember to stand every hour, hard when I'm at the computer. I used to wear a pedometer and would try for 10,000 steps but seldom made it. Then I realized the pedometer didn't always work right so I gave up on it and just keep the thought in mind of adding steps whenever I can by using the stairs as opposed to elevators, getting off the bus a stop earlier, parking a little farther from the door, etc.

  15. wonder tips Heidi and I for one can give a personal testimony to just how quick you truly will begin to see changes.

A couple of years ago my cholesterol tested ery very high and I was put on a high fiber, low fat diet.

I actually wound up eating more each day as I too had to eat several small meals a day, but, the effect was a loss of 16 lbs. in about 2 months.

All the food was yummy. There was no dieting at all. I just bought fresh vegetables and cut out red meat and all processed meats.

That was all I did along with adding more exercise of course. I lost weight, felt more energetic and also now have my cholesterol under control without having to take any cholesterol medicine.

You know one of my handiest little kitchen gadgets through this phase was my George Foreman grill. I could cook up some salmon or a piece of chicken in a matter of a few minutes and it tasted delicious, retained all the good things my body needed while draining away most of the fat.

    Happy weekend to you,
    Jackie:-)

  19. Great tips! I've had lots of trouble with eating in front of the tv myself. It's so easy to keep on munching when you are distracted! I would like to add that you should drink LOTS of water - very healthy and also helps fill you up!

  20. Simple but practical advice Heidi. Sticking to the five fruits and vegetables per day is a really good idea as it helps you avoid cakes, chocolates etc.

I'd also expand on your 'avoid high caloric and sugary drinks' and recommend that people substitute them with green tea which has various health benefits.

  21. Very good post. You are right about sugar. Based on what I have learned drinking soda is the worst thing you can do to your body. Soda is toxins and sugar and it takes 15 gallon of water to clear one can of soda.
