Want To Quit Smoking? Food Do's And Don'ts

Have you tried and tried to quit smoking but it never seems to stick? I found some interesting information on foods that can assist you in your efforts!

I have personally never smoked as I had an embarrassing introduction to cigarettes in tenth grade at the local Pizza Hut in front of a guy I liked and that was it for me. Spitting water on the object of your affection while coughing to death from the cigarette smoke at the same time is enough to turn one off . Never again.

Try These Foods To Help You Quit Smoking-They Make Cigarettes Taste Worse

**Dairy Products-Try organic low-fat yogurt, and cheeses
**Water-Great for you in every way so drink at least half your body weight in water each day. Ex-If you weigh 120 lbs then it is recommended that you drink at least 60 ounces of water.
**Juice-Do watch the sugar here
**Fruits-Go for the lower sugar fruits like cantaloupe, pineapple and berries
**Vegetables-Nibble on fresh carrots, and celery and enjoy a delicious spinach salad with a vinaigrette dressing for a healthy and delicious treat.

Avoid These Foods If you Want To Quit Smoking-They Make Cigarettes Taste Better

**Coffee

**Alcohol
**Meat

I am sure you have noticed that the foods to help you quit smoking are all on the healthy side while the foods to avoid if you want to quit smoking are on the far less healthy end of the spectrum. Makes sense I think.

Keep in mind that I am not saying these foods will make you quit smoking-I understand that smoking is a tough thing to quit but I hope that maybe these food choices can help in making this very difficult transition slightly easier.

P.S.You should also include exercise as it can help smokers ward off cravings for cigarettes.

    Quitting smoking is the best thing you could do for your health. The withdrawals and cravings are only temporary and the benefits lifelong.

    The important thing to remember is that once you quit never try it again because you will eventually get hooked again.

  5. I smoked for 36 years and quit this past Sept with the help of the medication Chantix. I can tell you from personal experience that the quit experience is different for each individual person. The foods I was or wasn't eating had no impact on whether I would smoke or not and to be honest, food did not taste better to me when I quit. I have always enjoyed eating and it's no different now.

  6. No wonder I notice people who smoke also like to drink alcohol or coffee! Yes it's not easy to quit smoking but I have a friend who smoked for 30 years and quit it in one day. It's incredible! His motivation? He had high blood pressure and high cholesterol and was hospitalised for a few days. But he's very determined, so I really salute him!

  9. Nice new pic in your side bar. I have been an on again off again smoker. I had quit for 18 yrs and started again. I am now quit for 1 yr as of July 4th. I have quit every time with will power, no aids of any kind. It was hard every time. I just have to remember that I can not even have one cigarette or I will be back at it again. I still have days where I would like to have one, but don't!

  10. I know a teacher who quit smoking. He said once he made the decision, it took him six years to quit!

    He he learned one of the things used to cure tobacco is sugar. That's why smokers often crave a cigarette after eating.

    So what he did was consume a spoonful of honey after eating, in order to deal with cravings after meals.

  12. Theres an old joke .... quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world, cause people do it dozens of times during their lives.

    Seriously .... I would love to quit, maybe I just use stress as an excuse not to right now, and I definitely have a passion for coffee .... I don;t want to got he route of medical stuff to help stop .... maybe some tips like these and flat out willpower are what it will take.

  14. I stopped 9 years ago, after being on 60 a day for over 30 years .

    I agree with Mamaflo that the experience is different for everyone - in my case it was 6 months of misery before the craving subsided . It's almost inevitable that people try to find substitutes, which is why many put on weight after stopping smoking . I would suggest that the best advice is to recognise that you're going to need substitutes and to urgently find low-calorie ones !

    I quit smoking 19 years ago, after smoking for 19 years...I made the decision one day and that was the end of it...I never really had cravings to smoke again but I did want to smoke which is totally different...I never did though...I consider myself lucky!

  18. I've never smoked and think it's because both of my parents smoked when I was a kid. Never could tolerate the smell of smoke. I never knew that coffee and meat make smoking taste better. Interesting. My dad still smokes and enjoys his coffee.

  20. Terrific tips. I quit smoking more than 8 years ago and still occasionally will want one. The craving goes away quickly, but in the early days it was horrible. Hope you get more people interested.

  21. I quit smoking 11 years, 5 months, and 20 days ago. But who's counting? I quit cold turkey, couldn't take it and used the patch. I quickly found out that coffee and alcohol made my cravings unbearable. So, I quit both for about a year until I got over smoking completely. Well, as completely as can be, I still crave a smoke every once in a while, even today. Sigh.....

    I used to be a smoker and all I did was go cold turkey but I had my relapses. I can finally say I am not tempted by cigarettes anymore — it's been a five-year struggle, but well worth it!

    Try adding some Milk Thistle as a liver tonic. Smokers and drinkers damage their liver more than anyone in this world.

    If you quit smoking but your liver is already half damage. Maybe, the tonic can be a great start with quit smoking plans.

  25. Smoking can hook you because cigarettes contain nicotine which is highly addictive. But being hooked is not an excuse why you cannot quit smoking.
