I am so, so, so behind and am trying to get back in the swing of things but did want to share one of my favorite mini diet tips with you. I know I have been bad, bad, bad on the eating scale this week so am trying to focus on my nutrition and hopefully incorporating this tip into your lifestyle might just help.
Cook With Veggies Instead of High Calorie Meats- How about mushrooms instead of meat? Now you are probably saying that I am trying to slip this in since I am a vegetarian (and very sneaky) but no, this really cuts back on the calories. When researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore gave people lunches made with mushrooms or the same meals made with meat, the mushroom eating consumers ate 42 percent fewer calories than those eating the beefier dishes. Fungi have fewer calories ounce for ounce than meat but are equally filling. I love to cook portabella mushrooms and eat them as my main course, throw some broccoli, carrots, onions, peppers in casseroles instead of meat or make a veggie stir fry. It really is delicious and actually very good for you too!!! Why not swap out your meat for a little veggie love!

Right on with the veggies. But be extra careful not to pour on the oil when cooking. I use low sodium soy sauce. It's very tasty and contains zero fat.
Another great post. You're the best.

Even for those who feel that they cannot forego eating meat - it is good for the body to have one or two meat free days during the week. It is important to make sure that on days when meat is avoided to eat the equivalent of protein by other means - whether it's in eggs, cheese, soya, tofu or nut roast, etc.ReplyDelete
It is frightening to think that people were considered to be healthier during the Second World War when meat was on ration and only a small amount was available per person ... perhaps we need to learn from this!
I've had portabella mushrooms that were cooked to taste just like steak!ReplyDelete
