Reduce Your Chances Of Cancer With These Healthy Tips

Cancer is one of those things that I don’t really like to think about happening to me or someone that I care for but the reality is that it is out there and since there are ways to help you improve your chances of not getting it I decided to post these tips to help lower your risk of getting cancer. For some reason I don’t see myself getting cancer (my friend Deanna says that I seem to think that I am invincible-I know that I am not but try to be positive) but one never knows so it cannot hurt to live a healthy lifestyle that may keep the evil cancer away.

Easy Tips To Keep Cancer Away-Healthy Too!

Obesity is a risk factor in six types of cancer. Consuming alcohol, red meat and processed meats like ham, sausage and bacon also raises your odds, while eating more fruits and non-starchy vegetables and getting more exercise lower your risk. Apparently these findings are noteworthy because a team of international experts spent five years reviewing all the evidence.

1.) Eat vegetables like baby carrots, a refreshing leafy green salad with some broccoli, tomatoes or cauliflower thrown in, red pepper slices and snap peas instead of eating chips, zebra cakes, and other fun yet not so healthy snacks.

2.) Eat more fruit- freeze grapes, make fruit salsa, warm up an apple with cinnamon and a bit of sugar. Add some berries to your diet-The anthocyanosides in blueberries are currently the most powerful antioxidants known to scientists and are beneficial in the prevention of all types of cancer.

3.) Have a nice relaxing cup of Green tea-Green tea is a rich source of a class of flavonoids known as catechins. Studies have shown that the catechins present in green tea are able to slow or prevent the development of cancer in colon, liver, breast, and prostate cells. Oh how I love my green tea!

4.) Have whole grains whenever possible-Whole grains contain a variety of anti-cancer compounds, including fiber, antioxidants, and phytoestrogens. When eaten as part of a balanced diet, whole grains can help decrease the risk of developing most types of cancer.

5.)Don't count on vitamin supplements to protect you against cancer; in some cases, they may even increase your risk. Visit http://www.howsafeisyourvitamin.com/ for a free report on what really is in vitamins.

6.) Don't Smoke- "The single most important agent that has been unequivocally linked to cancer is cigarette smoking." It is very ,very compelling:lung cancer, cancer of the throat, tongue, bladder, stomach and lips.

Once again many of the same foods keep recurring for good health, burning fat, helping you sleep, and now fighting diseases. Thanks for stopping by.

P.S. I have had several people ask me my favorite green tea and I will tell you it is Tazo Zen green tea. It is a nice smooth tea with spearmint and lemongrass (I am not getting paid to say this). I have tried what feels like a hundred different ones and to be honest (I hate to admit this) completely was disgusted witht the green tea taste. The ones with fruit taste added made me want to spit (although I drank them all it was a true effort to get it down) and then the plain ones bored me but then this one FINALLY came along and I can drink at least 5 or more cups a day and love it (it smells really good too). What is your favorite green tea or try the Tazo and let me know what you think (I get it at the grocery store-Target-and it is only about $3.00 for 20 bags-so affordable). And as always I am way, way, way behind on my commenting and dropping of entrecards but trying to catch up so hang in there with me if you will. I always pop back up somewhere.

  1. I have to say, you are never invincible. I was working out a minimum of 5 days a week, on top of Yoga twice a week. I was in the best shape of my life eating healthy. I drank green tea...did all the right things never thinking I would get it. I didn't smoke. All my friends did. I am small..not at all over weight. Then I got Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The thing is some cancers have no answers. No one knows what causes my cancer but I have a feeling it's enviromental. I couldn't avoid it but I think you have to eat right and take care of your body. It's the only one you have!

  3. Your quote: "Once again many of the same foods keep recurring for good health, burning fat, helping you sleep, and now fighting diseases."

I agree wholeheartedly: what we eat, and how much of it, directly effects our lives, both good and bad. Make it good and eat all these great things!

  6. We are what we eat...although cancer has been around forever so there is also something else taking place in the body/environment we do not have any control over...but...fighting it the best we can is all we can do!

I've tried many Green Teas and haven't found one I like...will see if I can get
    Tazo Zen in Canada.
    Cheers

  7. Are you reading my mind? I was just looking yesterday at green tea and thought about trying the Tazo one instead of the one i normally buy and was afraid to buy it in case it didn't taste good. I already don't like the one I buy but it's the most palatable of what i've tried so far. Soooooo I'm off to buy Tazo here in a bit. I'm trusting ya on this one lol.

  8. Health Nut:

There are no guarantees in life, of course, but I definitely agree that diet plays a big role in preventing cancer. Plus, of all the things that we can't control, such as the environment, our diet is something we can control. That being the case, why not be sensible and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables?

    Happy trails.

  10. Great post. At the moment I'm working mostly on the fruit and veg thing. Trying to eat a bit of raw veg when I can, and as much fruit as I can fit in a day. The only problem is that I get full very quickly, so I think smoothies can help you pack more in. I don't know if the sugar in fruit has negative effects though???

  13. I'm drinking Chinese tea, alternating among Oolong, Tie Kuanyin and xiangpian. Depending on which province they come from in China, the tea leaves can be very expensive.

  15. Long time no see! Wow, this post hit hard as Danny, our best friend of 10+ years, is loosing his battle lung cancer (was diagnosed 9 months ago). It's so important to treat our bodies with respect so we can live a healthy life, but I know it's hard sometimes.

    Great post as always Heidi!

  16. Cancer is indeed scary. I lost a good friend and my brother-in-law to cancer. It's important to eat lots of vegetables and fruits, but they must be organic ones cos the pesticide laden ones also cause cancer.

Also important is exercise and enough sleep and rest cos that build up the immune system. Since there will always be some cancer cells in our body, we need to make sure our immune system is always in top shape to fight those cancer cells.

  17. Cancer is indeed scary, it is hard to understand alot of the times, I am just glad I like all those foods and drink you mentioned, otherwise I will have to make a lot of effort to have those, thankfully I don't and I enjoy having them. We share the same brand of green tea, yes, it is not expensive at all.

  23. I think a large number of health problems are caused by the preservatives and chemicals being used in processed foods these days. I believe that Americans don't eat enough fruits and vegetables and therefore are missing out on fiber. It is my understanding that most doctors think cancer is hereditary. I think this is possible. Most of the people on my mother's side of the family died from cancer. On my father's side it seems to be heart related issues. I feel that eating right will improve your chances of being healthy but I also believe that you shouldn't "short change" yourself at the table. If you enjoy a particular food that isn't healthy, just modify your portions. Afterall, it is important to feed your soul as well as your body.

  24. Good advice. I've always exercised, eaten right (since I was about 24) and taken vitamins. I don't smoke and only drink socially, on rare occasions. But I still got breast cancer. Long Island is a hotbed of it. So it's especially important to eat right to de-toxify all the poisons we all take in from our environment, daily.

Did you know that now they're saying that megadoses of C increase cancer risk?

  25. Please! All you women who are drinking green tea and believing you are protecting against cancer, find out where your green tea is coming from. Many green teas from China (especially China) are grown with pesticides. Please do an internet search for the particular brand of tea to find out if it has been tested for DDT and other pesticides! This news was a shock to me-I have been drinking a lot of green tea, and not always organic. My mother has just been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. I am looking a little deeper now into what I assumed was safe....be aware-all the best-Cynthia
